It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Advent - Karen Stokes
The season of Advent is filled with potential for beautiful, dramatic
and celebratory worship. The music; the decoration of the Sanctuary;
the ancient and powerful Biblical stories of prophets, angels, dreams
and visions; all inspire creative approaches to the Sunday morning experience.
Are you interested in exploring these possibilities with an ‘interdisciplinary’
group of MPC musicians, artists, theologians and lovers of liturgy?
Karen will bring us together in a time of reading, discussing and planning
the four weeks of Advent, plus the Christmas Eve services.

in finding out how to deepen the ENGAGE concepts of nonviolence are
invited to this new workshop. It will be conducted in the same lively
and interactive way, and be practical at both the personal and global
level.
Ken Preston and Patty Caramagno-Robertson of Pace e Bene will be the
presenters. They offer training in the practice of powerful, creative,
nonviolent ways of living using compassion, cooperation, connection
and concerted action.

Tai Chi - Gail Sprung
This Tai Chi class includes Qigong (chee-gung), which helps with relaxation
by integrating the mind, the breath, and the movement. The Tai Chi form
is a sequence of movements that can be considered a moving meditation.
Tai Chi practitioners experience improved health through this gentle
exercise that teaches how to completely shift the weight, regulate the
breathing and cultivate the inner qi (or energy). The Tai Chi form that
we do is the short Yang style. The Qigong is the Soaring Crane Qigong.
Gail uses the curriculum from Grandmaster Sam Tam with whom she continues

in Palestine.” This course offers an update on the situation,
using the Presbyterian booklet STEADFAST HOPE, articles by noted writers,
DVDs of important films such as the controversial documentary “Rachel

Help for Handling Difficult Conversations - Betsy King
This discussion group based on our reading of the book “Difficult
Conversations: How to Discuss What Matters Most” (of the Harvard
Negotiation Project) explores what it is that makes conversations difficult,
why we avoid them, and why we often handle them badly. It applies to
how we deal with children, parents, students, neighbors, customers,
bankers, brokers, team members, employees, and colleagues of any kind.
We will learn the pitfalls of conversations and how to recognize the
blame, emotions, and threat to our identity that usually emerge. We
will role-play the step-by-step approach for conducting our toughest
conversations with less stress, greater understanding, and more success.
Betsy King’s background is in education. She now does professional
