Yule Feast 2014

Every two years, about 250 adults, youth and children, members and friends of our church, dress up in medieval costumes for our Yule Feast. It offers a kaleidoscope of sights, sounds, aromas and an extraordinary experience of Christian community.

In keeping with tradition, our celebrating begins in the Family Room with fanfare toasts, The Pigplay and the traditional Yule Log presentation. Spicy Wassail is served to the accompaniment of the Wassail Carol, traditional Christmas Carols and medieval music.

Courtyard entertainment with colorful flying acrobats, lofty stilt walkers and traditional medieval children’s games will delight and amaze you while the Yule Feast Silent Auction will entice you to bid on the many treats and services in the Thornhill Room.

Festive Christmas Greens, colorful banners, candles, ribbons and the holiday spirit transforms the sanctuary magically into a medieval banquet hall complete with roaming Magi (three wise women) to challenge you with mysteries and inquiries of the season! Madrigals and musicians entertain us during the sumptuous meal served in the traditional family style by hosts and hostesses. Following dinner we continue the revelry with music, merriment and interactive entertainment.

In celebration of Epiphany, Yule Feast commemorates the coming of the Magi as the first manifestations of Christ to the Gentiles. History has identified such festivities as Little Christmas or Second Christmas. Modern celebrations of Yule Feast were celebrated in Oxford, England as far back as the mid~1300’s, reenacted during the Christmas season in England and later in Colonial America.

MPC Yule Feast, with its colorful rituals and symbols, forges ties between past and present in joyous celebration. The sharing of food, music, drama and ceremony helps us tie together. And the presentation of the Yule Log and Child is symbolic of the warmth of the family fireside, which from earliest time has marked the rekindling of love as the old year passes and the new one is born.

The next Yule Feast will be in January 2014.
