Montclair Presbyterian Church 5701 Thornhill Drive
Oakland, California 94611
Sunday Celebration begins at 10:00 AM Join Us!
We
are an open, inclusive community where we celebrate: Social Action,
Art, Music and Drama, Intellectual Challenge, Spiritual Growth, and
Children & Youth. We are a vital community because so many
give so generously of their time and energy to our many committees and
programs. Worship at Montclair Presbyterian Church is designed to be
vibrant, transforming, comforting, inspiring, and challenging. It is a
time when each person can discover the presence of God in his or her
life and in the world. We seek to create celebrations which have
shape and purpose, a sense of drama and a narrative flow, and which
move each person through a cohesive and integrated experience.

You are invited! Please
join us for any of the programs, activities or fellowship that we offer
throughout the week. Listed below is just a sample - please call
the Church Office or leave a pew card in the offering plate if you
would like more information.

Mission Statement
We are a community that embraces God's radically inclusive love. We affirm the moral values of Scripture, which tells us to ?do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with God.' We lay claim to the Biblical imperatives of welcoming the marginalized, giving voice to the oppressed, and honoring all people. We work for justice in the here and now, rather than salvation in the hereafter. We ask the hard questions and don't accept comfortable answers. We refuse to leave either our hearts or our heads at the door. We believe that doubt is an honest expression of faith. We are convinced that God has a sense of humor and we are the proof. We
acknowledge our differences, treasure our common humanity, and learn
humility from our faults. We encourage each other to expand our
intellectual, spiritual and emotional horizons while holding within our sights the promise of becoming our better selves. We challenge each other to take risks and honor the courage in failure. We see our church of imperfect people transforming into a church of infinite possibilities. We are as contrary as Jesus.
Comments from our church family: "Sunday
services are filled with the good news of the presence of God in our
lives a very inspiring message about thoughtful and inclusive
Christianity?" "Justice and peacemaking were important issues for Jesus. These issues are the reason we are a church." "I love our diversity - our inclusion - our ability to be many in a flock with great chirping and joy."
"We
do indeed have a treasure here in Montclair Presbyterian Church, one
that is given into our care for the time being, to be nurtured and
cared for, and then handed on to the next generation of this Church
Family. It is a great heritage we have received from those who have
gone before, and a sacred trust that we hold. The future
beckons." - Pastor Karen Stokes
